This journey is a quest that leads me to places beyond my wildest dreams and imaginations. It is simple really. So why do I make it so hard? The LORD uses ‘life lessons’ to send me searching. Everyday, simple things that can move me to look deeper and spend more time parked right there in the moment. I want to search it out. I want to know. So where is this ‘quest’ taking me? I keep coming back to this answer, but yet it is a question that plunges deep into my soul …
“WHAT do I KNOW of HOLY???
The One asking me knows the depth of the question, for the substance of His character has written the definition. To even begin to know what “Holy” requires, I must look at what “HOLY” is made of. Leviticus 20:26 tells me the command “And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am HOLY.” Holy is the Sovereign God Almighty Whom loves me always and forever, past, present and future. Holy is Providence Whom has written my members into being and is writing my story within me according to His Glorious purpose, plan and perfection. Holy is the Savior Whom left Heavens Glory, splendor and perfection to be born of a virgin maiden, to bleed for my redemption, and to be buried to arise and conquer death that I may live. Holy is the Spirit inside that lives, breathes and guides me on this quest until I reach the end of this journey. Holy is more than my feeble mind will ever comprehend. What I know of Holy on the surface, in the shallows, will keep me busy for a lifetime. I love the mystery that Holy is, for He will continually uncover His treasures before me as I seek Him. What do I KNOW of Holy? I know I love Him and I desire to KNOW more of Holy!
What is Holy calling me to? 1 Peter 1:15-16 “But as He which hath called you is HOLY, be ye HOLY in all manner of conversation: because it is written, ‘BE YE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY‘.” First and foremost, the requirement of all requirements, I must be HIS! I must be in the Beloved, saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Believing and accepting that He is Who He says He is, that He paid ‘my’ penalty for sin. Secondly, see those words ‘in all manner of conversation’, aka: the way I am living, everything that I am doing, walking, breathing, speaking…ummm everything means everything! One word lights up in neon flashing colors…
OBEDIENCE!
Do you see it? I must follow the direction of the lights, remember we are on a quest. Although obedience requires action, it is more a state of being, the way Holy desires for us to live this life well. Please continue on.
~ Mark 12:33 – And to LOVE HIM with ALL the heart, and with ALL the understanding, and with ALL the soul, and with ALL the strength, and to LOVE his neighbor as himself, is MORE than ALL whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
~ 1 Samuel 15:22 – … obeying the voice of the LORD… to OBEY is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
~ Psalm 40:6, 8 – Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire: mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. …I delight to do Thy will (obedience).
It is of great worth…oh, the value of obedience in the eyes of Holy. The magnitude of it resonates within my heart even more when I read what Luke has to say. Do I have what it takes? I want to.
~Luke 14:26, 27, 33 – If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother and wife, and children, and brethren, and sister, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
I want to be Holy! I want to be His disciple! I want to obey! The bar seems so high, how will I ever do it? What comfort to know that none of this is in my power, but His. The love of Holy empowers me to do what I cannot do naturally.
~ John 13:34, 35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Holy God loves me! He is the perfect example of Holy Love. To love the One Whom is Holy will create a love within me for others. As I draw closer to Holy, that love for others will grow deeper and flow out. As Holy loves on me and I on Him, my desires will change. As my desires change, love will multiply and reach farther. To embrace the Holy will express the character of Holy in obedience to all that Holy requires. What do I KNOW of Holy? I know I love Him and I desire to KNOW more of Holy!
